Cruz Foam: Making Waves in the Fight Against Plastic Waste

There's an exciting business developing right here in Santa Cruz, and the owner and investors are making waves in protecting our natural environment! Cruz Foam is on a huge mission to replace the harmful packaging most commonly known as Styrofoam.

The co-founder John Felts first came up with the idea when he was surfing and saw the outrageous amounts of single use plastic littering our oceans. He kenw there had to be a better way, and thought, “what if we could replace all of this plastic with something biodegradable?”

Fast forward to today, Felts and his team have created a replacement made out of shrimp shells, an abundant resource that until now, has gone unused. This biodegradable material is not only made out of an abundant source provided by nature, but by using it instead of Styrofoam, you can help eliminate pollution drastically.

Here are a few exciting facts about the company:

  1. Leonardo DiCaprio and Ashton Kutcher have both joined the company as investors and advisors on the board.

  2. Cruz Foam has also been working with Whirlpool to replace many of their packaging materials with Cruz Foam to make their packaged products more environmentally friendly.

  3. During testing Cruz Foam broke down naturally in soil within 60 days or less.

  4. The best part about this company is it not only helps the environment, but it does so at a reasonable price. Cruz Foam and Styrofoam are close in cost, making the switch to this earth-friendly packaging material a no-brainer.

It's so exciting to see a new company creating eco-friendly alternatives to commonly used goods, especially knowing that it all started right here in our Santa Cruz community!
